The KPuzzle Documentation - Playing the Game

Getting started

When you have started KPuzzle, you may start a new game by clicking the leftmost symbol in the toolbar or by choosing File/New Game.

Now, you can choose a picture to play with. The dialog box currently only shows *.bmp files, but you may use every graphics file format which QT supports. When you have chosen a picture, you have to set some general game parameters.

The first listbox lets you select a game type. There are the following types available:

In the second listbox, you choose a tile size, and the listbox at the bottom controls the overall difficulty level of the game. If the option Use piece mask is selected, the pieces will have the shape of real jigsaw pieces, whereas they will have a rectangular shape if the option is unchecked.

Click OK when ready.

Playing

Now, you see the main screen of KPuzzle. Here, you can finally start playing.

On the left, there obviously is the playing area. A left-click tries to put a piece at the current position. If the position is correct, the next piece is shown automatically.

By clicking the right or middle mouse button, you may turn the piece. Please read below about the turning buttons. Around the playing area, there are the moving buttons, with which you move around the visible area of the picture.

On the right side, you see the points you have got and the time which remains for completing the puzzle. Below, there are two little pictures: The upper one shows the current status of the puzzle, the second shows a thumbnail of the entire picture.

The last area on the right side is the Piece Window. It shows the piece you are currently playing with. The Next and Previous buttons switch to another piece. Be aware that these buttons are deactivated if you play in the Unbearable mode and that you might be unable to select certain pieces when the time for this piece has run out or its faults counter is zero. Please read about this in the Getting started section.

Left to the Piece Window, there are the turning buttons. You may set in the Properties dialog which meaning these buttons should have. Be aware that clicking the middle mouse button in the Playing Area is equivalent to pressing the lower turning button and clicking the right mouse button has the meaning of pressing the upper turning button.
